Three Castle Head on the Mizen Peninsula, Co. Cork, Ireland

Three Castle Head

Three Castle Head is one of the must-see highlights in the southwest of Ireland!  The ruins of Dunlough Castle, enthroned on a plateau in a protected valley, are surrounded by a picturesque lake and high sea cliffs. Three Towers, connected by a solid wall, built this fortification and also named the headland.

Curiously enough, almost no guide book mentions this beautiful gem. This is probably because there is no official parking space and you have to cross private farmland to reach the ruins. The partly steep climb takes about 25 minutes. However, it is absolutely worth the effort.
