Probably the most memorable monument of the Easter Rising of 1916 in addition to the General Post Office is the former prison Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. Almost all well-known leader of the Irish struggle for independence and nationalist politicians were imprisoned here. Many of the leaders of the Irish rebellion were executed in Kilmainham Gaol.

 

Nowadays the former prison turned into a museum. During a tour you get an impressive insight into the events that took place 100 years ago and finally marked a major turning point in Irish history .
